The 2023 AESHL Winter Draft Results

This Thursday past the Avalon East Senior Hockey League held its annual Winter Draft. After receiving the 1st overall pick from the Outer Cove Marines, Ian Sullivan of the Southern Shore Breakers selected Jesse Sutton. The Mount Pearl native joins the Breakers after a 6 season stretch in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, enjoying tenures with the Quebec Remparts, Chicoutimi Saguenees, and Acadia-Bathurst Titans. next up was Ivan Hapgood's Clarenvile Caribous, who took Matt McClelland. born in Oshawa, ON, McClelland will make his senior hockey debut following 4 years in the Western States Hockey league with the Wichita Thunder and Ogden Mustangs. the addition of McClelland to the Caribous lineup was praised, with Hapgood stating he's "looking forward to seeing Matt this coming Tuesday night [to] see what he brings to the table".

The Conception Bay Blues, Harbour Grace CeeBee Stars, Southern Shore Breakers, and St. John's Caps would all choose to pass on their remaining picks, clueing up the first round, and leaving the Outer Cove Marines with their 7th and 11th overall picks. Marines coach Alex Snow would select Tyler Power (now 3rd overall) and William Trenholm (now 4th overall) to conclude the last AESHL draft of the 2022-23 season!

The Avalon East Senior Hockey League looks to get back on track tomorrow night, following multiple game cancellations this weekend due to weather, with the Southern Shore Breakers hosting the Outer Cove Marines at 7:00 PM in Mobile.
