It was a tight race at the top of the AESHL standings, coming down to one of the final regular-season games to determine the rankings. With their regulation win over the Caps last Thursday night, the Blues secured first place in the league standings, dropping the Caps to third. The loss also allowed the Breakers to move ahead of the Caps, finishing in second place.
As a result, the Blues and Breakers will receive a bye to the semifinals, while the remaining four teams will battle it out in a best-of-three quarter-final series, which begins this Thursday night.
