McCarthy's Corner: CeeBees honour Royal Canadian Legion prior to 8-3 loss to Breakers
The Southern Shore Breakers rolled into the DCHGCC in Harbour Grace last Saturday night and came away with an 8-3 win over the HGOE CeeBee Stars. Special teams played a big role in the Breakers win as they had 3 power play goals and added another while shorthanded. Bobby Upshall, Matthew Oates, and Shayne Kanvanagh had the power play markers while Blake Dalton had the short handed tally. Captain Jeremy Nicholas, Mike Chafe, and another tally by Upshall rounded out the scoring for the Breakers. Ryan Dawson, Nick Lindstrom, and Jordan Escott replied for the CeeBee Stars. The Harbour Grace Ocean Enterprises CeeBee Stars dedicated Saturday night's game to our war veterans and members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 15 took part in the pregame ceremony.
The Avalon East Senior Hockey League has released the playoff format for this season for the 5 team league. At the conclusion of the regular season the league will hold a wild card weekend in which the two teams with the least number of points will play a 2 out of 3 series. The winner of this series will be declared the 4th place finisher and will claim the last playoff spot. This 4th place finisher will then face the 1st place team in one semi final series while the 2nd and 3rd place finishers will tangle in the other. The winners of these 2 series will then square off in the final series for the league championship.
